What’s Coming Up

Focus on Imaging (4 – 7 March 2012) in Halls 9 and 10 at the NEC, Birmingham…

The Focus on Imaging event is the biggest show in europe, held annually at the NEC, Birmingham, United Kingdom. Whether you dapple with images as a hobby, consider yourself and amateur, semi pro or professional; this event has something for everyone.

Of coure, it’s not all about the person behind the lens, there is ample for the print maker, or framer as well as the designer who wants to use the latest software as part of their workflow.

There are numerous exhibitors who attend this event and all the latest equipment will be there; with some excellent live demonstrations and staff on hand to answer virtually any question you want to ask.

If you are deciding what equipment you want or need next, or want to discover how it works after you have read all the reviews, then this is certainly the place to go to.

I have been attending the show for the last six years and each year it has never failed to amaze me, not only the immense size of the event, but also the new and exciting shows, equipment and enthusiasm present each and every year.

A couple of tips if your new to the event and want to go in 2012.

Firstly, purchase your ticket on line and register art the same time. If you wait for the day of your attendance then you will be standing in a queue for some considerable time.

Secondly, the car parking isn’t free, but it is secure, just remember to leave £8.00 in your car so you can get out. Better still, buy your ticket as you walk away from your car to the event. There are ticket offices in all the car parks, positioned at the walkway you wil use to get over the main event; you won’t regret it.

Thirdly, take a rucksack with you for all the literature and promotional items you may want to collect. If you want to hold a carrier bag in your hand all day, then please accept one from the Nikon agents as you walk through the registration area. However, if you want your hands free for more important things like holding your camera or looking at gear, then politely say ‘No’. You can always pick one up later when you leave.

Fourthly, take you camera with you and if you have one, a telephoto lens with a large aperture like f/2.8. I find a 70mm – 200mm does just the job. Why take one?; Well there will be opportunities to get some images of models with all the studio lights on set. The models are extremely accommodating and will allow you to take shots of them. Additionally, a speedlight may be of help for the odd image you want.

Lastly, take some food and drink, light refreshments are not cheap at the event, so if like me you like your lunch, plan ahead; you will thank me.
